Holland Landscaping installs planting at every scale: specimen trees on commercial entrances, structural shrub beds across body corporate common areas, mass planting on developer handover sites, hedging programs for boundaries, and seasonal colour for retail and hospitality spaces. Our planting crew is led by horticulturalists who know what survives Auckland's clay, salt and westerly wind. We don't pull stock from the cheapest nursery and hope for the best. Plants are sourced from established Auckland and North Island growers we've used for years, specified to grade, inspected on delivery, and installed within days of arriving on site.

Soil prep is where most planting work succeeds or fails, so we don't skip it. On Auckland clay we cultivate, amend with compost or sharp sand depending on drainage, and install proper subsoil drainage where it's required. Tree pits are dug oversize, backfilled with the right mix, staked correctly and mulched. Shrub and groundcover beds are weeded clean, edged and mulched to a consistent depth. Where the brief calls for it, we install drip irrigation through the bed before mulching so the planting establishes through its first summer. Establishment failures (the dead plants you see on cheaper jobs six months later) are almost always traceable to skipped soil prep, poor stock or no irrigation. We address all three upfront.

For commercial and developer projects, we plant to a documented schedule with as-built records, warranty cover on workmanship and a defined establishment maintenance period. Most of our planting installations are followed by a Holland maintenance contract, which means the same team that planted the site is the one watering and weeding through summer one. That's the cleanest possible handover. Where the client is using a different maintenance provider, we leave proper documentation (planting plan, plant schedule, irrigation as-built, watering regime) so the incoming team can do their job.

Planting design is part of the same conversation. If you have drawings already, we'll plant to them. If you need help with species selection, structure, seasonal interest or low-maintenance commercial palettes, our designers and horticulturalists work with you to refine the brief before stock is ordered. Auckland councils increasingly require native and ecologically appropriate planting on consented sites; we work with those rules rather than around them, and we know which natives perform reliably in commercial settings versus which look great in a brochure but die in a carpark island.
