Ecological Restoration is a multifaceted undertaking involving the repair and enhancement of impaired natural habitats.

Ecological Restoration

New Zealand’s once pristine ecosystems have deteriorated over time due to a historic over-exploitation of our natural resources, poor understanding of our collective impact on the environment, and the introduction of weeds and pests that erode our forest habitats. Holland Landscaping can help restore parts of the original magic which we all love about this country we call home.

Fortunately, the worlds attitude towards the environment has changed in recent years and embraced the challenge of restoring and preventing further damage to our eco systems. Holland is proud to be a part of the growing global trend of repair and restoration of our precious planet. Holland Landscaping is one of New Zealand’s leading experts in ecological restoration. With vast experience in landscaping, horticulture, arboriculture, forestry, and ecology we can guarantee steps to restore your natural ecosystems. Revegetation of environmentally sensitive areas, waste land, road embankments and land that is difficult to farm leads to a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment. Environmentally sensitive areas often contain unique and diverse flora and fauna, such as coastal areas, waterways and wetlands, and alpine areas. There are many opportunities for revegetation hidden in plain sight. Areas that are difficult to commercially farm, waterways, parts of lifestyle properties and lush embankments just to name a few. A rapidly expanding development that inspires the Holland team is the planting of Manuka on steep or poor farm land for the production of the well sought after Manuka honey.

Replanting native forests is a positive way to improve biodiversity in our natural environment. Native planting provides a wide range of benefits including increasing native biodiversity,
creating habitat for native wildlife, stabilising soil, recreating linkages and vegetation sequences, enhancing water quality and enhancing our natural environment,
essential to our identity as New Zealanders.
Ecological Restoration also fosters the re establishment of New
Zealand’s unique podocarp rain
forests including the Kauri, Totara, Rimu,
and Kawaka
.
Ecological Restoration can also be a requirement from local councils in order to obtain a resource
consent, to remedy or mitigate the adverse effects of a proposed activity. Many of
our wetland species can only be found in New Zealand. These species
are numerous and
would take forever to list
from start to finish but include swamp maire (Syzygium maire), Purei
(Carex secta), and cane rush (Sporadanthus ferrugineus). New Zealand’s wetlands are also home to
a disproportionately high number of our threatened plants and animals, largely due to extreme habitat loss and ongoing human degradation. With continued restoration of our wetlands it is possible to rebuild these habitats and keep the healthy reproduction
of those native species which we hold so dear.
